Mavs fall to Colorado Christian 64-53

Mesa State (11-6, 7-6) fell to visiting Colorado Christian (5-11, 4-9) 64-53 Saturday night at Brownson Arena in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.

MSC held a 38-23 halftime lead shooting 65 percent (15-23) from the field in the first 20 minutes.

In the second half the Mavericks were outscored 41-15 by the Cougars and hit just 5 of 22 from the floor. MSC was 8 of 21 from the free throw line and turned the ball over 24 times, 15 in the second half.

Colorado Christian hit 17 of 42 from the field scoring 16 second half points off MSC turnovers. The Cougars went to the foul line 32 times; hitting 23 of 29 in the second half.

Lance Fite led the Mavericks with 14 points and six rebounds. Fite was 5 of 8 from the field, including three treys. Colton Burgon finished with 13 points and six boards.

MSC held a 10 point lead (42-32) with 16:08 remaining in the game when the Cougars went on a 13-0 run. CCU held the Mavs scoreless for over six minutes to take their first lead of the game at 43-42. An 8-0 run by CCU in the final five minutes sealed the victory for the Cougars.  

CCU's Abram Ziemer led all players with 16 points.  

MSC will travel to Regis University and Metro State College this weekend.
