Mavs edged by Orediggers 55-52

Mesa State fell to visiting Colorado School of Mines 55-52 rallying back from a 16 point deficit in the second half. The Mavericks three point attempt to tie the game missed as time expired giving the Orediggers the road victory.

Colton Burgon and Lance Fite led the way with 13 and 10 points respectively. Burgon and Nate Nelson had seven rebounds each in the loss.

Colorado Mines's Gordon Galloway led all players with 14 points.

The Orediggers led 30-19 at half and led by as many as 16 points at the 13:50 mark of the second half.

MSC's 14-2 run cut the deficit to four points (39-43) with 7:06 remaining in regulation. CSM pushed the lead back to 10 points (40-50) with 4:19 left. The Mavs stormed back to pull to within one point (52-53) on three consecutive possessions  and Lance Fite's two free throws with 11 seconds left.

Mine's Chris Goutama sank two free throws with nine seconds left for a 55-52 lead. MSC had two 3-point attempts to tie the game before time expired.

MSC shot 35 percent (14-40) from the field and hit 4 of 14 from the 3-point line. MSC was 20 of 27 from the foul line.

CSM shot 40 percent (21-52) for the game and connected on 5 of 14 treys. Mines were 8 of 11 from the free throw line.

MSC will host Colorado Christian Saturday at 7 p.m.
