Mesa State entered day two of the Oredigger Classic 2-0 after sweeping Friday's opponents. Saturday morning the Mavs fell to #15-ranked Southwest Minnesota 3-0 (19-25, 20-25, 18-25).
Junior middle Antoinette McCormick finished with a match high 14 kills hitting .346 in the three set loss. Meagan Bosch added 11 kills and seven digs. Senior setter Tara King recorded 31 assists (35 total attempts) for a .886 assist percentage.
SW Minnesota had three players record double digit kills and finished with nine team blocks.
MSC fell to Abilene Christian in their first 5-set match this season. ACU took advantage of 18.5 team blocks for a 22-25, 25-20, 25-19, 23-25, 15-12 victory. Despite a season high 19 kills from Meagan Bosch and 17 kills from McCormick the Mavs could not overcome 40 attack errors. Junior transfer Celest Alofipo recorded her first double-double of the year with 11 kills and 15 digs.
Tara King was named to the Oredigger Classic All-Tournament Team. She finished with 60 assists, 15 digs and four kills in the five set loss to ACU.
MSC (2-0, 0-0) will travel to Kearney, NE for the Loper Invitational this Friday and Saturday.
