Mesa State Mavericks swept Augustana (SD) and Minnesota-Moorhead in day one of the Colorado School of Mines Oredigger Classic in Golden, Colo. MSC defeated Augustana 25-17, 25-20, 25-21 Friday morning and followed up with a win over Minnesota-Moorhead 25-19, 25-19, 25-20 in the evening session.
Antoinette McCormick opened the 2010 season recording 11 kills and 6 block assists in the win over Augustana. Freshman Sarah Kemp's collegiate debut included 10 kills, 5 digs, a game high 3 block solos and 3 service aces.
Defensively Meagan Bosch and Whitney Howard combined for 25 digs. Senior setter Tara King finished with 24 assists, 7 digs and 7 blocks.
MSC dominated up front finishing with 12 team blocks and holding Augustana to .043 match hitting percentage.
McCormick posted 13 kills and 6 digs in the evening match versus Minnesota-Moorhead. Kemp tallied 6 kills, 11 digs and 4 block solos. Howard and Bosch had 13 and 10 digs respectively.
MSC will take on Southwest Minnesota and Abilene Christian Saturday afternoon in the final day of the Oredigger Classic.
