The 13th Ranked Ft. Lewis Skyhawks scored a goal in each half en route to a 2-0 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory. The Mavericks record falls to 2-4-1 and 0-3-0 in RMAC play while Ft. Lewis improved to 6-1-0 and 2-1-0 in the RMAC.
The Skyhawks outshot the Mavericks 12-11, took more corner kicks 8-4, and had more fouls 10-4. Each team made 4 saves.
Ft. Lewis received its first goal in the 15th minute, when Elena Benavides found the back of the net. Benavides' shot sailed over the goalkeeper to give the Skyhawks a 1-0 lead.
Ft. Lewis got an insurance goal late in the game. In the 76th minute, Emma Cannis found the left side of the goal and insured a Skyhawk victory.
Ft. Lewis is on a 5-game win streak against the Mavericks, dating back to the 2007 season.
Mesa State will be back in action Friday night against the Adams State Grizzlies at 7pm. Then on Sunday, Mesa State will play its annual 'Breast Cancer Awareness' match against the UCCS Mountain Lions at 12pm. Proceeds will go towards the 'Swing for Life Foundation' and the Huntsman Cancer Foundation. Pink Jerseys and other memrobilia will be auctioned off at that time as well.
