Mavericks Start Conference Play 0-2

            The Mesa State Mavericks is starting the RMAC season similar to the Men's team, 0-2. The Mavericks fell victim to the upstart Nebraska-Kearney Lopers and the Regis Rangers. Mesa State's record now sits at 2-3-1 and 0-2-0 in the RMAC.

            In Friday's conference opener, Mesa State fell to the Lopers of Nebraska-Kearney, 2-1. Mesa State outshot the Lopers 18-8 and took more corner kicks 8-0 but couldn't get an equalizing goal. Junior Sophia Whigham (Tucson, Ariz.) gave the Mavericks an early lead when she found the back of the net on an unassisted goal in the 14th minute. It was Whigham's second goal of the season and leads the Mavericks in goals scored.

            The Lopers answered back with a goal in the 33rd minute and the go ahead goal in the 49th minute. With the win, Nebraska-Kearney is now 4-1-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the RMAC.

            In Sunday's match, the Regis Rangers blanked the Mavericks 2-0. The Rangers outshot the Mavericks 25-4 and dominated every stat category. The Rangers scored a goal, right before halftime,  in the 44th minute and got an own goal from the Mavericks in the 64th minute.

            The Mavericks will have there home opener on Wednesday September 22nd at Walker Field. They will square off with the Ft. Lewis Skyhawks. The games will be broadcast on the internet by America One and on the radio by 91.3 KMSA.
