Mesa State defeated nationally ranked University Nebraska-Kearney 3-2 (25-21, 16-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-12) winning the final two sets, beating the #7-ranked Lopers on their home court.
MSC had four players register double digit kills including double-doubles by Meagan Bosch (14 kills, 16 digs) and freshman Sarah Kemp (14 kills, 24 digs). Bosch notched a game high eight block assists as the Mavs tallied 16 total blocks in the match. Antoinette McCormick recorded 14 kills and six block assists.
The Mavs trailed 11-12 in the final set before rattling off the final four points for the upset victory.
Setter Tara King finished with 50 assists and 17 digs. Whitney Howard had 23 digs and Megan Rush added 17 digs. Rachel Beaty played a major role adding a season high seven blocks assists.
Early in the day at the UNK Fall Classic the Mavericks dropped a 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 23-25, 22-25) decision to St. Cloud State.
McCormick finished with a game high 17 kills, Kemp had 13 and Bosch 10. MSC had 11 team blocks to St. Cloud's seven. The Mavs had 11 service errors in the tightly contested match.
MSC will wrap-up play in the UNK Fall Classic Saturday against Quincy University and Newman University.
