The Mesa State Mavericks salvaged a season split with the Metro State Roadrunners. The Roadrunners and Mavericks each won four games a side. The Mavericks now sit at 24-13 on the season and 19-9 in the RMAC.
In Game One of the series, the Mavericks lost a 7-6 decision in 10 innings. Mesa State had leads of 1-0 after 2 innings, 5-3 after 7 innings, and 6-5 after 9 and a half innings but couldn't hold onto it. Senior

In the morning game of Saturday's doubleheader, the Mavericks trailed 9-0 after 8 complete innings but erupted for 12 runs in the 9th inning. Mesa's 12 runs came on 8 hits and 5 Metro State errors. They held on in the bottom half of the inning to win 12-11.

In the nightcap, Mesa State led 2-1 after 5 and a half innings but failed to hold the lead again allowing 6 Roadrunner runs in the bottom half of the 6th inning to lose 6-2. Senior
Chris Shea took his 3rd loss of the season and is now 6-3 overall.
The Mavericks could only muster 5 hits in the game, 2 came off the bat of
Jeff Popick.
In Sunday's non-RMAC matchup, Mesa State put up 15 runs on 17 hits to cruise to a 15-3 victory. Sophomore
Dylan Evans pitched 8.0 innings scattering 11 hits while striking out 9 on the way to his 5th win of the season.

Ryan Shelton hit his first Maverick homerun in the 7th inning while
Jeff Popick hit his 4th homerun of the season in the 4th inning.
The Mavericks will return home this upcoming weekend to face RMAC leading NM Highlands. Friday night will be Little League Family/Record Attendance night with proceeds from the game will benefit local area Little Leagues. Also on Friday night, the Mavericks will honor former coach Bus Bergman before the game. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
