The Mesa State Mavericks opened the RMAC portion of their schedule at home against the Metro State Roadrunners. The Mavericks lost two of the three RMAC games with Sunday's non-confrence game going to the Mavericks.
In Game One, Maverick Senior Scott Bachman pitched 8.1 innings striking out 10 in the process but that wasn't enough as the Roadrunners plated 5 in the ninth to secure the 9-7 victory.
Senior Jack Amidei took the loss in relief. Offensively, Mesa State was led by Junior Greg Andersen's 4-for-4 performance.
Game Two saw Sophomore Kyle Davis pitch 6.0 innings en route to a 11-3 Maverick win. Davis, making his first appearance of the season, struck out three and scattered six hits to pick up his first collegiate win.
The Mavericks were led by Senior Marty Rover's 2-for-5 with 3 RBI and Junior Ken Evanson's 2-for-4 with 3 runs scored.
The nightcap of Saturday's doubleheader saw a tightly contested game. In the end, Metro State got a three-run homerun by Chris Redding in the top of the seventh to secure the win 11-9.
Senior Derek Riley took the loss in relief. Senior Austin Buck was 2-for-4 with 4 runs scored in defeat.
In Sunday's non-conference game with the Roadrunners, the Mavericks found their bats. Mesa State knocked out 33 hits in a 33-7 win. Sophomore Dylan Evans got the start and pitched 5.0 innings striking out 4.
Ten Mavericks collected multiple hits including Senior Austin buck who had 5 hits. Junior Lucas Shaw finished 3-for-5 with 5 RBI including a grand slam in the second inning.
The Mavericks are headed to Las Vegas, NM to square off with the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys next weekend. Mesa State will be back home on March 12 to face off with the Colorado Christian Cougars.
