The Mesa State Mavericks played a non-conference series this weekend with rival CSU-Pueblo in Pueblo, CO. The Mavericks came out of it with series split, winning games one and four. Mesa State is now 2-4 on the year with its home opener coming on Friday against Central Region foe the University of Mary.
In Game One of the series, the Mavericks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back in an 8-0 win. Senior lefty
Scott Bachman pitched a complete game shutout in his first start of the season, allowing 6 hits and 2 walks while striking out 2.
Senior
Austin Buck led the offense and finished the game 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI's.
Game Two saw the Thunderwolves jumped out to an early 4-1 after the first inning and scored 4 runs in the first, second and fourth innings en route to a 12-5 win. Maverick
Derek Riley took the loss in his first start of the season.

Brett Nigbur, and
Greg Anderson all finished with 2 hits in the loss.
In Game Three, CSU-Pueblo came out and pounded out 20 hits and scored 12 runs to beat Mesa State 12-5. Junior
Mike Sutton took the loss in his first appearance of the season.
Offensively, the Mavericks could only muster 5 hits, 2 of them coming off the bat of first baseman
Lucas Shaw.
In the finale, Senior
Chris Shea held the Pack at bay. Shea pitched a complete game, scattering 7 hits in a 4-0 win for the Mavericks. Shea struck out 8 in the win.

Kevin Becker hit his first triple of the season and Senior
Brian Bello hit his first homerun as a Maverick, a 2-run homer to left field in the fourth inning.
Mesa State will open the four-game series with the Mary Marauders on Friday (Feb. 19) at 3:00pm at Suplizio Field.
