Mavs fight off Grizzlies

Beat Adams State 66-63

Mesa State (7-3, 4-2) defeated Adams State College (7-4-2-3) 66-63 Monday night in Alamosa.  

 

Freshman Hanna Bowden finished with 12 points off the bench including 6 of 7 from the field. Bowden hit the go ahead jumper with 46 second remaining in regulation to give MSC a 64-63 lead. Katrina Selsor hit two free throws with 14 seconds left to seals the victory. Selsor recorded 12 points and five rebounds.

 

Kelsey Sigl finished with a team high 14 points, 11 in the second half. Sigl was 6 of 10 from the floor and pulled down five rebounds.

 

Sharaya Selsor had 11 points and a team high four assists.

 

MSC held a 30-24 halftime lead and extending the margin to 11 points with 13:44 remaining in regulation. ASC quickly erased the double digit deficit with a 10-0 run to pull to within 42-43. The Grizzlies took a four point lead (51-47) at the 8:58 as the lead changed hands on several occasions. ASC last lead was 63-62 with 1:13 left when Bowden's layup gave MSC the go-ahead basket.

 

MSC shot 50 percent from the floor (27-54) and 90 percent (10-11) from the foul line.

 

ASC shot 40.4 percent (23-57) for the game and 73.3 percent (11-15) from the free throw line. The Grizzlies were led by Kelsie Kruger's game high 15 points.

 

MSC will return to action January 2 and 3 when they host Metro State and Regis University.
