Box Score Mesa State (8-2, 4-2) defeated Adams State (6-2, 3-2) 89-77 at Alamosa's Plachy Hall, Monday evening to extend their win streak to four.
MSC had six players register double digit figures led by Nate Nelson's game high 18 points off the bench. Nelson scored 11 points in the first half and finished 8 of 15 from the field.
Colton Burgon, Lance Fite and Michael Bear each recorded 13 points and combined for 16 rebounds. Burgon was 6 of 7 from the field; finished with three steals, two blocks and eight rebounds. Fite was 3 for 3 from the floor including two treys and 5 of 6 from the foul line.
Blake Francom tallied 11 points and three assists. Kalonji Paschal had 10 points, a game high six assists and seven rebounds.
Chandler Burgon led all players with nine rebounds.
MSC led 43-23 at half while shooting 60 percent (17-28) from the floor and held a 25-10 rebound advantage. ASC shot 25 percent (7-28) in the first half.
The Mavericks extended the lead to 30 points with 10:18 remaining in regulation when the Grizzlies gradually chipped away at the lead and with a 14-1 run cut the deficit to 10 points.
MSC held on down the stretch with free throw shooting. The two teams combined for 65 fouls and 84 free throw attempts. The Mavericks connected on 31 of 42 from the foul line while the Grizzlies hit 21 of 42 free throws.
The Mavericks committed a season high 34 turnovers. MSC out-rebounded Adams State 48-31 including 36 defensive boards.
ASC was led by Shayar Lee's 16 points.
MSC will break for the holiday and return to action January 2 to host Metro State College.
