Mesa State (18-8, 12-8) volleyball beat Fort Lewis College 3-1 (25-23, 25-19, 22-25, 25-17) Thursday night in Durango to clinch at least a tie for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference west division title. MSC closes out the regular season Friday night at Adams State.
Freshman Sarah Kemp pounded out a game high 20 kills and finished with a .364 attack percentage. She had just four errors in 44 attempts.
Senior Meagan Bosch tallied a double-double recording 14 kills and 13 digs. Tara King had 47 assists on the evening and finished with nine digs, three kills, two service aces and two blocks.
Fort Lewis College (15-10, 9-8) was led by Chelsea Flaming's 17 kills and 10 digs.
MSC had seven service aces in the four-set match and finished with 60 kills, 62 digs and seven team blocks.
The Skyhawks recorded 51 kills, seven blocks and two service aces. FLC had three players with double digit kills and digs.
The Mavericks trailed in each of the first two sets before runs of five points in set one and a 13-3 run in the second set led to comeback wins and a 2-0 set advantage. FLC held on for a 25-22 third set with 15 kills and a .350 attack percentage. MSC clinched the win in a 25-17 fourth set.
MSC will play at Adams State Friday night at 7 p.m. Western New Mexico trailed MSC by one game in the standings going in to the final regular season weekend.
