Mesa State volleyball defeated visiting Adams State 3-1 (18-25, 26-24, 25-17, 28-26) Saturday afternoon in Brownson Arena. The Grizzlies took the first set from the Mavericks at home this season pulling out a 25-18 win. The next three sets were tight with the score tied nine times in set two and three including nine lead changes. In the deciding set the game was tied on 11 occasions and had four lead changes before the Mavs prevailed 28-26.
Antoinette McCormick led the Mavericks with 13 kills. Meagan Bosch recorded 11 kills, seven digs and a season high nine blocks including three solo. Sarah Kemp finished with nine kills and two blocks. Lindsey Reed and Courtney Searls combined for four kills and eight blocks.
Tara King had 36 assists, seven kills and two blocks. Three players recorded double digit digs; Megan Rush (14), Whitney Howard (12) and Sarah Kemp (11).
The two teams combined for 27 blocks (MSC-15, ASC-12). The Grizzlies were led by Deprece Washington's game high 14 kill. Laura Loosbrock tallied 11 kills and Megan Tapia had 10.
MSC will host Fort Lewis College Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m.
