Mesa State women's swim team opened the 2010-2011 season on the road at the Adams State Duals in Alamosa, sweeping host Adams State and visiting Colorado School of Mines. The men's and women's teams combined for a total 21 titles, the women winning 12 events and the men earning nine first place finishes.
MSC women began the day winning the 200 yard Medley Relay with Jaclyn McMillen, Katie Wedel, Kelly Hogan and Gina Panacci winning the event in 1:55.40 and setting a pool record. It was one of two relay events the women won. The team of Hogan, Panacci, Annie Jones and Tora Anderson won the 200 yard Freestyle Relay in a time of 1:46.84.
Jaclyn McMillen set a pool record winning the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:02.25. She won the 200 backstroke posting a time of 2:15.77.
Wedel set a pool record winning the 100 butterfly in a time of 1:02.89. She won the 200 IM in a time of 2:17.60, setting a pool record, and won the 400 IM in a time of 5:03.21.
Panacci was victorious in the 1000 yard freestyle (11:21.05) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:32.16).
Freshman trio of Allison Freund, Katie Thompson and Tora Anderson made an immediate impact in their first collegiate meet.
Freund won her first collegiate event winning the 200 yard freestyle in a time of 2:02.07, a pool record. She placed second in the 200 IM (2:22.64) and 200 breaststroke (2:42.39).
Thompson set a pool record in her collegiate debut winning the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:15.10. She finished third in the 200 breaststroke (2:47.24).
Anderson won the 50 freestyle in 26.15, a pool record to go along with her first place finish as a member of the freestyle relay team. She finished second in the 200 backstroke (2:19.85).
The Mavs will host the 1st Annual Mesa State Intermountain Shootout Friday and Saturday at El Pomar Natatorium. Friday's session will begin at 6:30 p.m. Saturday's events will begin at 10 a.m.
