Mesa Men Win Adams State Dual

Mesa State men's swim team opened the 2010-2011 season on the road at the Adams State Duals in Alamosa, sweeping host Adams State and visiting Colorado School of Mines. The men's and women's teams combined for a total 21 titles, the women winning 12 events and the men earning nine first place finishes.

MSC won the 200 yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:29.43. The team of Kent Stavrakas, Shane Seuschek, Daniel MacDonald and Justin White finished four seconds ahead of second place finisher, Colorado Mines. The four Mavs also won the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 3:22.19.

Stavrakas won the 50 yard freestyle in a time of 21.99 and White placed second (22.46). MSC placed in the top four spots with Jakob Matthiessen(22.17) and Heath Eustance (23.16) placing third and fourth respectively.

Stavrakas finished first in the 100 freestyle (48.70) and first in the 200 butterfly (53.81). Teammate White placed second (50.32) behind Stavrakas in the 100 freestyle. Dan MacDonald placed second in the 200 butterfly (55.92).

MacDonald won the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:07.10 and placed second in the 100 fly (55.92. He finished third in the 100 free in a time of 51.71.

 Matthiessen won his first collegiate event winning the 200 yard freestyle in a time of 1:50.84. He was third in the 50 freestyle (22.17) and 500 freestyle (5:19.18).

Scott Strehlow won the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:16.46.

Alejandro Hernandez won the 400 IM in his first collegiate race in a time of 4:29.98. Hernandez finished the day with a second place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:51.28) and second in the 200 IM (2:06.45).

The Mavs will host the 1st Annual Mesa State Intermountain Shootout Friday and Saturday at El Pomar Natatorium. Friday's session will begin at 6:30 p.m. Saturday's events will begin at 10 a.m. MSC will play host to Adams State, Air Force and Utah.
