Mesa State (17-8, 11-5) defeated New Mexico Highlands, 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-18) Friday night in Las Vegas, N.M. Saturday evening the Mavericks dropped a 3-0 (22-25, 19-25, 22-25) decision at Western New Mexico in Silver City. With the victory the Mustangs closed to with in one game of the first place Mavericks in the west division, with two games remaining.
Meagan Bosch led all players Friday night with 11 kills. Lindsey Reed added 10 kills and hit .562, recording one error in 16 attempts. Whitney Howard finished with a game high 11 digs. Tara King added six kills, 34 assists and a game high three blocks.
Saturday night WNMU's Natali Murdock led all players with 16 kills as the Mustangs improved to 12-9 overall and 10-6 in RMAC action.
Bosch had 12 kills and eight digs in the loss. Freshman Sarah Kemp added 10 kills and six digs. Howard led all players with 19 digs.
MSC is 9-1 at home and 4-4 on the road (4-3 neutral sites). Of the 25 matches played 18 have been determined in three sets. MSC has swept opponents 13 times and have lost 0-3, five times.
In the Mavs 10-match homestand MSC won 27 sets and lost just five.
MSC will travel to Fort Lewis College Thursday and wrap up regular season play at Adams State Friday night.
