With the fans roaring and getting into every point there was a surge of electricity throughout the arena. The Mavs started their ten-match home stand with a three set victory over the Western New Mexico. With the win the Mavericks improve to 8-6 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
The Mavericks were executing on all cylinders Friday night at Brownson Arena. On offense Celest Alofipo lead the way with 12 kills, behind her with 11 kills on the night was Antoinette McCormick. The Mavs also protected their side of the court with some help from setter Tara King who recorded 14 digs and 32 assists on the night.
The Mavericks went up on Western New Mexico early in the first set before the Mustangs started to crawl back, but the Mavs stayed ahead and won the first set 26 to 24. The second set was just as close as the first one with 12 ties but the Mavericks kept their composure and won that set 25-23. Leading 2-0 and needing one more set win to win the match and sweep the Mustangs, the Mavericks held off Western New Mexico, winning the third set 25-20.
With this victory Coach Fleming notched his 100th victory at MSC.
The Mavericks are currently on a three match win streak and are looking to add to the streak when they take on New Mexico Highlands University Saturday, October 2nd at 7 in Brownson Arena.
