The Mesa State Cross Country Team competed in the Metro State Invitational on Saturday morning. The 6K raced featured six teams and a handful of open or professional runners. Mesa State placed 4th as a team but did have the overall champion in All-American
Alexis Skarda (Boulder, Colo).
Alexis Skarda won the overall women's title in 21:08, matching her career best and the best in school's history for a 6K race. Skarda held off a trio of professional runners in the final stretch to secure the win.
Kenzie Grant (Minturn, Colo.)finished 13th overall (24:09)and 2nd for the Mesa State team followed by
Mariah Schmidt (17th; 24:30),
Brooke Bosman (19th; 24:41), and
Tara Ebarb (28th; 25:53).
The Mavericks #2 runner
Kelsey Follett (Ft. Collins, Colo.) did not race this past weekend as she is preparing for the Championship Season.
The Mavericks will compete this coming weekend in the Mountaineer Open hosted by Western State College.
