Mesa State men's swimming & diving team fell to Division I University of Wyoming in Laramie Friday by the score of 169 -121.
Alejandro Hernandez and Justin White swam to first place finishes. Hernandez won the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:00.05. White won the 100 freestyle in 49:67. Hernandez and White scored nine points each with their victories. White recorded a second place finish in the 50 free (22.36).
MSC recorded several second place finishes resulting in four points for second place finishes. Scott Strehlow placed second in the 1000 freestyle in a time of 10:43.48. Jakob Matthiessen in the 200 free (1:50.37), Ian Shriner in the 200 backstroke (57.26) and Alex Jordan in the 100 backstroke (1:03.74).
Mike Hudson tallied four points with a second in the 200 backstroke (2:05.84) and Chuck Gabriel in the 200 breaststroke (2:21.38). Kelly Doggett finished second in the 500 free in a time of 5:06.94 and Dan MacDonald in the 100 butterfly (54.56).
White, MacDonald, Shane Seuschek and Matthiessen placed second in the 400 free relay in a time of 3:17.20.
Saturday at the DU Relays in Denver the Mavericks finished fourth behind Division I foes DU, Air Force and Wyoming. Host DU won the event with a team score of 192 followed by Air Force (138), Wyoming (102) and MSC (8).
MSC scored two points each with a sixth place finish in the 1500 free relay (Doggett, Strehlow, Seuscheck) and eighth place in the 400 free relay (Seuscheck, White, Hernandez, MacDonald). The team of Alex Jordan, Brian Lee and Chuck Gabriel earned four points with a sixth place finish in the 300 breaststroke relay.
The Mavericks will travel to Golden for the Rocky Mountain Invitational Friday and Saturday hosted by Colorado School of Mines.
