Mavericks Handle T-Wolves 3-0

                The Mesa State Mavericks started out the weekend on the right foot with a 3-0 win over the CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves. Mesa State's record improved to 4-5-1 and 2-4-0 in the RMAC while CSU-Pueblo fell to 3-6-0 and 1-4-0 in RMAC play. 

                The Mavs got on the board early in the first half on a goal by Redshirt Junior Sara Islas (Tucson, Ariz.). Islas' third goal of the season came in the 10th minute when she took a pass from Sophomore Kelci Crispe (Lakewood, Colo.) and found the left side of the goal. The assist was Crispe's fourth of the season.

                The first half would end with Mesa State leading 1-0 over CSU-Pueblo.

                The Mavericks would tack on to their lead early in the second half. Senior Marissa Cascio (Chandler, Ariz.) found the back of the net in the 49th minute and gave the Mavericks a 2-0 lead. Cascio took a pass from Junior Sophia Whigham (Tucson, Ariz.) and went top shelf for her first goal of the season. 

                The Mavericks would add on again four minutes later in the 53rd minute. Sara Islas would score again this time on a penalty kick. Islas was fouled right in front of the goal on a Kelci Crispe corner kick. The goal was Islas' fourth goal of the season and gave Mesa State a 3-0 advantage.

                The Mavericks would go on to win by a score of 3-0. Senior Alicia Kahler(Spokane, Wash.) kept a clean sheet in goal. Kahler's record improved to 3-4-1 and the shutout was her second of the season.

                Mesa State will be back in action on Sunday against nationally ranked Colorado School of Mines. Kickoff is set for 3:00pm at Walker Field.
