Box Score Mesa State (3-9, 2-5) women snapped a four game losing streak with an impressive win over the visiting UC-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions (5-10, 2-6) Saturday night at Brownson Arena. UCCS is coached by former MSC women's basketball coach Steve Kirkham.
The Mavs were led by Courtney McCaig's game high 19 points.
Sophomore Alaina Brennan recorded her first double-double finishing with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Brennan scored 11 points in the second half.
Junior transfer Katie Cupp posted a team high 11 rebounds and added six assists and three steals.
MSC led 33-26 at intermission and led by as many as 15 points in the second half. UCCS cut the lead to six points with 1:02 remaining in regulation but the Mavs hit 5 of 6 free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
UCCS was led by Mallory Lowe's 16 points and 12 boards.
MSC will hit the road this weekend and begin play against the west division. The Mavs will play at New Mexico Highlands on Friday and at CSU-Pueblo Saturday night.
