Sweep RMAC East Division Teams

Mesa State's 81-71 win over visiting UC-Colorado Springs marked the first time in MSC history the Mavs have swept (7-0) their RMAC East Division opponents. The win improved the Mavericks to 13-1 overall. The loss dropped the Mountain Lions to 5-10 overall and 2-6 in RMAC action.

 

MSC had four players in double digits led by Mike Dominguez's game high 16 points. Dominguez finished with seven rebounds, five assists, three steals and one blocked shot.

 

Sophomore Michael Bear posted 15 points, including 6 of 7 from the floor, and a game high eight rebounds and four blocks.

 

Junior Lance Fite hit 5 of 9 from the floor and finished with 12 points.

Jase Herl recorded 10 points, six rebounds and five assists.


MSC led 43-32 at halftime shooting 67.9 percent (f16-24) and finished the game shooting 59.6 (28-47).  Both teams struggled from the free throw line; MSC was 19-30 and the Mountain Lions hit 13 of 21 from the charity stripe.

 

UCCS erased the Mavericks 11 point halftime lead opening the second half with a 12-2 run. The Mountain Lions had their first lead in the game (46-45) at the 16:54 mark. MSC answered back with an 11-1 run and maintained the lead hitting 5 of 6 free throw in the last minute to seal the victory.

 

MSC begins west division action on the road this weekend at New Mexico Highlands on Friday and at CSU-Pueblo on Saturday night.
