Mesa State (7-7 overall) volleyball team remained perfect (5-0) in league play with a 3-2 victory at Adams State Friday night (25-21, 22-25, 25-27, 25-23, 15-12). The Mavericks came from behind taking the fourth and fifth set for their sixth consecutive victory.
MSC recorded a season high 15 blocks led by Tessa Andrews' season high 9 blocks to go along with a team high 24 kills. Antoinette McCormick and Rachael Beaty had 5 blocks each and six different players recorded at least 2 or more blocks in the 5-set match.
Alisan Tompkins finished with 14 kills and McCormick added 9 kills and one service ace. Gabrielle Lovato hit .333 in the match with 8 kills in addition to 2 block assists.
RMAC Player of the Week Tara King had 54 assists, 9 digs, 5 kills and 3 blocks on the night. Whitney Howard had a team high 14 digs.
Adams State's (7-6, 4-2) Darcy Jennings led all players with 27 kills and just 6 errors in 50 attempts (.420).
MSC trailed in the fourth set 4-11 before going on an 11-3 run and a 15-14 lead. The set went back and forth with several lead changes before the Mavericks tied the match on a kill by Tompkins.
The Mavericks clinched the match in the fifth set reeling off four of the final five points to break an 11-11 tie and remain in first place in the RMAC west division.
MSC will travel to CSU-Pueblo for a match up Saturday night with the T-Wolves.
