Volleyball Wins 5-setter at Western NM

Improve to 2-0 RMAC action

Tessa Andrews, Alisan Tompkins and Antionette McCormick combined for 54 of the Mavericks 75 kills in a 5-set (15-25, 25-23, 28-30, 25-20, 15-10) victory at Western New Mexico. The victory extended the Mavs win streak to 3 matches, improve to 4-7 overall  and 2-0 in RMAC action.

 

MSC recorded 17 kills in each of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th sets while holding the Mustangs to a minus -.071 hitting percentage (2 kills, 3 errors, 14 attempts) in the final set. Despite 12.0 total team blocks by Western New Mexico (MSC – 5.0 blocks) the Mavericks 75 kills, 69 assists, four service aces and 57 digs were all better marks then their counterparts.

 

Junior setter Tara King finished with 60 assists and 3 of the Mavs 4 service aces. Tompkins recorded a double-double adding 11 digs along with 18 kills. Whitney Howard and Meredith Dolny had 15 and 14 digs respectively.

 

Mesa State will play at home for the first time this season this coming Friday and Saturday night versus Western State and Fort Lewis. This weekend will be the first home athletic event in the newly renovated Brownson Arena. Both matches are scheduled for 7 p.m.
