The Mesa State Mavericks won their Central Region Tournament opener over RMAC rival CSU-Pueblo, 17-6. The win sets up another RMAC showdown with the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys at 3:30pm tomorrow at Suplizio Field.
The Mavericks were paced by a strong pitching performance by ace
Brent Lamaster. Lamaster went eight innings allowing eight hits and striking out nine while walking two. Lamaster improved his record to 6-1 on the season.
The Maverick offense put up twenty-one hits including five homeruns.
Mike Provencher hit his 12th and 13th homeruns of the season, the first was to center and the second a mammoth job to left.
Kevin Becker was 5-for-5 which raised his season average close to .500 for the season.
In earlier tournament action, Wayne State (NE) upended New Mexico Highlands by a score of 11-3 and SW Minnesota State beat Northern Sun Conference foe Minnesota State, 11-3.
