Mesa State Mavericks traveled to Durango, Colorado to take on the Fort Lewis Skyhawks. The Mavs had just come off of a win that had moved them to 11-9 (8-4 RMAC) and were looking to extend their win streak to six. The Skyhawks were coming off a loss Friday night to Western State and looking to rebound against the Mavs. FLC built a 41-27 halftime lead and despite being outscored by MSC in the second half, 37-34, held on to beat MSC 75-64.
The Skyhawks first half surge was largely due to their 7-of-12 treys from Trent Bowman and Ryan Jameson, each going 3-for-5. In the second half MSC closed the gap to three points (58-61) at the 6:49 mark on a jumper by Kurt Bangle. FLC went on a 14-6 run to close out the game and drop the Mavericks to 11-10 overall and 8-5 in league play.
Ryan Mathews, Kurt Bangle and Jase Herl combined for 41 of the Mavericks' 64 points. Herl finished with a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds) and a team high six assists.
MSC returns home to host Western State College Tuesday night and Western New Mexico on Thursday night. Both games are set to tip-off at 8 p.m.
