Box Score

Friday evening the Mavericks traveled to Alamosa, to take on the Adams State Grizzlies. Mesa was hoping to get a much needed win to bluster their 4-15 record (1-10 RMAC), but the Grizzlies were favored thanks to their own 8-11 record (4-7 RMAC). In the end it took overtime for the Grizzlies to earn their ninth win (9-11, 5-7) 80-78.

The first period was a back and forth battle with eleven lead changes and three ties. Both teams shot well from the field (ASC – 51.6%, MSC-48.6%) with the Mavericks holding a 48-41 halftime lead. MSC's Hannah Breidel had a career high first half with 21 points, hitting 6-of-7 from the 3-point line.

Mesa's lead slowly started to vanish after the start of the second period when the Grizzlies went on a 14-6 scoring run to open the second half. The home team managed to retake the lead with only seven and a half minutes off of the clock and maintained that lead until just under six minutes remaining in regulation. MSC held a five point lead 73-68, with 1:04 left in the game when Adams State went on a 5-0 run and tie the game on a jumper by Deanna Reich with seven seconds remaining to send the game in to overtime.

Adams State outscored MSC 7-5 in the five minute overtime period for an 80-78 final score. MSC held a one point lead (78-77) on a 3-pointer from Breidel but the Grizzlies scored the final three points to close out the game.

MSC had four players in double digits, Breidel finished with 29 points and four rebounds. Stephanie Delgado and Abby Hancock each had 13 points and Heather Habekost finished with 12 points, three rebounds and six assists. MSC was outrebounded 48-30, including 11 offensive rebounds by the Grizzlies.

MSC will travel to Fort Lewis for a matchup with the league-leading Skyhawks.
