Mavs, 'Cats Split Twinbill

        #23 Mesa State and #3 Chico State split a doubleheader today at Suplizio Field. The Wildcats won Game 1, 6-4. The Mavericks took Game 2 by a score of 8-5.
        In Game 1, Chico starter Mike Robbins was outstanding pitching 5.2 innings before allowing a hit. Robbins (1-0) pitched 5.2 innings allowing only a hit, he walked 5 and struck out 5. Andrew Pluta and Jordan Lindebaum pitched the final 1.1 innings to close out the game. Lindebaum recorded his first save of the season.
        Chico State's Josh Meagher pounded his 3rd homerun of the season, a solo shot to right-center.
        For the Mavericks, Grant Vickers (Nanaimo, BC) broke up the no-no in the 6th with a 2 RBI single to center and pinch hitter Kevin Becker (San Jose, CA) notched the only two hits for the game.
        Chris Carma took the loss going 4.2 innings allowing 7 hits and 4 runs while striking out one and walking one.
        In Game 2, Mesa State was led by C Grant Vickers. Vickers collected 3 hits including his first homerun of the season, a solo shot that put the Mavericks up for good. 2B Kevin Becker tallied 2 hits and 3 RBI's in the win for the Mavericks.
        Kevin Chritz (Aurora, CO) received the win in relief of starter Andy Williams (Taos, NM). Chritz pitched 1.1 innings and allowed 3 hits and a run in the win. RHP Aaron Guinn (Vancouver, WA) picked up his first save of the season allowing a hit and a walk in his lone inning of work.
        Chico's offense was paced by LF Jordan Larson who had 3 hits.
        Mike Gleason took the loss for the Wildcats going 1.2 innings allowing 4 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks while striking out 1.
        The two teams will try to close out the series tomorrow, weather pending. First pitch is slated for 11:30am Mountain Time.
