In an RMAC Tournament 1st Round Preview, nothing was settled between the Regis Rangers and the Mesa State Mavericks. The Mavericks and Rangers played to a 2-2 tie in Denver on Sunday. The two teams will square off with one and other again on Wednesday in a RMAC Playoff match.
Mesa State jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute of play with a goal from Fr. Brittany Cito (Littleton, CO). It was Cito's 3rd goal of the season. Brittany took a shot from the deep right sde of the field and found the upper left corner of the net.
Shortly after halftime, Ranger Chelsea Reichard scored her 6th goal of the season. Reichard's game tying goal came in the 51st minute and came on a cross from teammate Heather Thomas.
Regis took the lead in the 65th minute on a goal from Chelsea Bokan to put the Rangers up 2-1. Bokan's goal was her 6th of the season and came off a cross from teammate Jordan Miller.
In the 88th minute, Jr. Daniela Ramirez (Rupert, ID) scored the equalizer for the Mavericks to tie the match up at 2-2. The goal was Ramirez' 11th of the season. Ramirez took a pass from So. Megan Swan (Aurora, CO) and put it past the goalie as she was coming out of the net to make the save.
Nothing was settled after to overtime periods, so the teams had to settle for a tie.
The Rangers and Mavericks will square off again on Wednesday at 2:00pm at Regis Soccer Pitch in Denver. The winner will play the Metro State Roadrunners on Friday at Auraria Field in Downtown Denver.
