Mesa State volleyball team dropped their semifinal match to Metro State (23-7) Friday afternoon at the RMAC volleyball tournament in Kearney, NE. The Mavericks rallied from a 0-2 set deficit to tie the match at 2-2 before falling 15-6 in the fifth set (20-25, 18-25, 25-21, 25-17, 6-15). Metro State will advance to the championship game Saturday against host University of Neb.-Kearney.
MSC, 19-11 overall, will await word from the NCAA committee as to an NCAA DII tournament berth. Post season tournament berths will be announced Sunday night.
Alisan Tompkins and Tessa Andrews led the Mavs with 16 kills each. Tompkins recorded a double-double in the match finished with 17 digs. Four Mavericks recorded double digit digs; Tompkins and Whitney Howard finished with 17 each. Meredith Dolny added 16 and Megan Rush posted 11 digs.
Metro State was led by Bri Morley's game high 19 kills and 15 digs. Amy Watanabe led all players with 22 digs.
The Roadrunners hit .253 in the match and .381 in set five. MSC finished with a team hitting percentage of .164 and recorded 2 kills and five errors on 17 attempts in set five (-.176). Metro tallied nine kills, one error on 21 attempts in the final set.
