Mesa State volleyball defeated Adams State Thursday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament in Kearney, NE.
The No. 2-seeded Mavericks beat No. 7-seed Adams State in five sets (20-25, 25-22, 27-25, 19-25, 15-11). MSC advances to the semifinal round and a match up with No. 4-seed Metro State. The Roadrunners swept (3-0) No.5-seed Regis in their quarterfinal match.
Antoinette McCormick and Tessa Andrews led the way with 16 kills each, including four each in the fifth set. McCormick hit .407 in the match and recorded 3 of the Mavs 7 service aces.
RMAC Setter of the Year, Tara King registered a double-double with 53 assists and 13 digs. King showed her versatility posting 3 kills and 4 total blocks, including 1 solo block.
Alisan Tompkins finished with a team high 15 digs and tallied 9 kills and 2 block assists.
Lindsey Jefferson posted a season high 10 total blocks and added 9 kills in the match.
MSC's serve specialist Meredith Dolny registered a game high 4 service aces.
Adams State College's Darcy Jennings led the way for the Grizzlies with 23 kills and 10 blocks.
MSC will play Metro State Friday afternoon at 4 pm (MST). Host Neb.-Kearney defeated Western New Mexico 3-0 and will take on Colorado School of Mines Friday night. The Orediggers swept UC-Colorado Springs. The championship match is slated for Saturday.
