#6 Roadrunners Too Much for Mesa State

        The 6th ranked Rodrunners of Metro State came to Walker Field on Friday and came away with a victory, 4-1. The Roadrunners record improved to 12-1-0 and 9-0-0 in RMAC play while the Mavericks dropped to 7-6-0 and 4-5-0 in RMAC competition. Metro State currently sits atop the RMAC standings while Mesa State remain 5th in the standings.

        Mesa State took a halftime lead when Jr. Daniela Ramirez (Rupert, ID) booted in her 6th goal of the season. Ramirez took a pass from So. Megan Swan (Aurora, CO) and found the left side of the net in the 44th minute. Sr. Kira Brannan (Broomfield, CO) was also credited with an assist, as she passed the ball to Swan.

        Metro State came out of halftime with a purpose. Jen Thomas scored her 8th goal of the season, two and a half minutes into the 2nd half. Thomas dribbled up past the defense and found the right side of the net to even the score at one a peice.

        Less than two minutes later, the Roadrunners took there first lead of the game on an Ashley Nemmers goal. Nemmers scored off a deflection from a shot taken by Becca Mays. Mays shot deflected off the post right to Nemmers. The goal was Nemmers' 5th of the season and gave Metro St. the 2-1 advantage.

        Metro State later benefited from a Maverick miscue in the 76th minute, as the defense tried to clear the ball out from in front of the net. Instead the went off the side of a Maverick defenders foot into their own goal. The miscue gave the Roadrunners a 3-1 lead.

        Metro State also got an insurance goal in the 90th minute, as Becca Mays scored her team leading 16th goal of the season. Mays took a pass from Ashley Munchiando in front of the net and found the right side of the goal.

        Mesa State will be back in action this Sunday at Adams State to take on the Grizzlies.

        The Mavericks will return to home action next Wednesday (Oct. 14th) to take on the Skyhawks of Ft. Lewis College. Game time is slated for 7:00pm at Walker Field.
