The Maverick Women's Soccer team broke a mini three match losing skid in grand fashion as the bested the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers 5-0 on Sunday. The win kept Mesa State in 5th place in the RMAC standings with one weekend to go. The Mavericks record currently sits at 9-9-0 and 6-8-0 in RMAC play.
Mesa State got the scoring going early. In the 2nd minute of the game, Jr.
Daniela Ramirez (Rupert, ID) scored her 8th goal of the season to put the Mavericks in front 1-0. Ramirez scored on a header from Fr.
Kelci Crispe (Lakewood, CO). Crispe's assist was her 2nd of the season.
Six minutes later, the Mavericks put their 2nd tally on the board.
Kelci Crispe scored her 3rd goal of the season in the 8th minute of the match. The goal pushed the Maverick lead to 2-0.
In the 29th minute of the match, Jr.
Natali Koen (Rio Rancho, NM) got into the scoring frenzy. Koen scored her 4th goal of the season and gave Mesa State a 3-0 advantage.
Still in the 1st half, Sr.
Jami Simpson (Broomfield, CO) notched her 2nd goal of the season. Simpson took a pass from Fr.
Brittany Cito (Littleton, CO) and found the back of the net in the 38th minute.
The Mavericks final goal of the match came in the 42nd minute, when
Brittany Cito scored off of a free kick. It was Cito's 2nd goal of the season.
Jr.
Alicia Kahler (Spokane, WA) and Sr.
Kaitlin Bennett (Federal Way, WA) combined on the shutout. It was the 4th shutout of the season for Mesa State.
The Mavericks will return to action at home this weekend as they are set to take on the CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves at 7:00pm at Walker Field. This will be the final home match of the season and the final home match for the Seniors.
