Mesa State volleyball opened the first weekend of league play with back-to-back sweeps over Western New Mexico Friday night and Saturday night defeated the Cowgirls 25-20, 25-16, 25-22. With the win the Mavericks improve to 4-5 overall and 2-0 in RMAC action.
Alison Tompkins (Jr., 5'10, Grand Junction, CO) led all players with 13 kills against New Mexico Highlands. Tompkins added three digs and two block assists in the match.
MSC recorded eight blocks to the Cowgirls four and hit .423 in the three set victory. NMHU hit just .073 finishing with 27 kills and 20 errors.
Tara King (So., S, 5'9, Steamboat Springs) tallied 40 assists. Ashley Loftsgard (Sr., L, 5'5, Granby, CO) finished with a game high 16 digs.
MSC will travel to Fort Lewis College and Western State next Friday and Saturday respectively. FLC is 7-2 overall and tied at the top of the West Division with MSC and Western State, with 2-0 league records. The Mountaineers are 3-7 overall.
