Ryan Mathews' career high 33 points Saturday night at Regis University led the Mavericks to a 78-69 victory and push their record to 5-4 overall and 2-2 in RMAC action. Mathews was 9-of-14 from the field and connected on 14-of-16 from the foul line. Mathews had 18 points in the first half in 16 minutes of action.
Regis held a 29-28 halftime lead but was outscored 50-40 in the second half. Regis led 45-44 at the 12:37 mark when MSC went on an 8-0 scoring run and never trailed again in the crucial road victory. Jase Herl finished with 16 points and a game high 8 rebounds. Kurt Bangle recorded 10 points, 3 rebounds 2 steals and 2 blocked shots.
MSC hit 26-of-35 free throws and held a 37-31 rebound edge.
The Mavericks will break for the holiday and return to action December 29-30 at the Dixie State Tournament in St. George, Utah.
