Mesa State and Metro State entered Friday night's contest in Denver 1-1 in RMAC action. The Roadrunners outscored the Mavericks 42-30 in the second half on the way to a 68-62 win. The loss dropped the Mavericks to 4-4 overall and Metro improved to 6-2.
MSC held a 32-26 halftime lead despite Metro going to the fall line 19 times (11-19) and MSC 6-of-9 from the foul line in the first half.
MSC maintained their slight lead the first four minutes of the second half before the Roadrunners went on an 11-3 scoring run and an 8 point lead (51-43) with 10 minutes remaining in regulation. MSC tied the game twice but never regained the lead as the Roadrunners held off MSC for a 68-62 home win.
MSC had four players in double figures led by Jake Swartzendruber's 20 points. Kurt Bangle finished with 16 points and Ryan Mathews added 13 points and four assists.
MSC will look to rebound Saturday night at Regis University.
