Sunday afternoon Mesa State Mavericks hosted Colorado Christian looking to repeat their success from Friday with a win over Colorado Mines. Early in contest both teams seamed to be evenly matched when the Cougars went on a 12-2 run and a 10-point lead with 9:31 remaining in the first half. CCU extended the lead to 13 at half on a trey, ending the first half 42-29.
The Mavs went on a scoring binge to start the second half to pull to within three points (43-46) with 12:35 remaining. CCU managed to keep the lead and at held a 17-point lead late in the game as the Mavericks could not overcome the large point difference, falling 76-67.
Ryan Mathews scored a career high 29 points going 12-of-22 from the floor, including 5-of-10 from the 3-point line. Jake Swartzendruber finished with 15. Jase Herl pulled down a game high10 rebounds and added 8 points.
MSC will travel to Metro State and Regis University next week before breaking for the holidays.
