Regis University defeated the Mavericks 3-1 to win the RMAC tournament title in Kearney, NE., Sunday afternoon. MSC took the first set (25-22) but dropped the final three sets (19-25, 22-25, 18-25) ending their season 16-13 overall. MSC entered the tournament as the number seven seed and upset #2 seed Western New Mexico and Colorado School of Mines to advance to the championship match.
Alisan Tompkins (Jr., 5'10, OH, Grand Junction, CO), Meredith Dolny (Jr., 5'9, OH, Moscow, ID) and Jessica Bird (Sr., 5'10, MB, Honolulu, HI) all registered double digit kills in the four set match.
Whitney Howard (So., 5'7, L, Bayfield, CO) and Ashley Loftsgard Sr., 5'5, L, Granby, CO) finished with 15 and 11 digs respectively. Setter Tara King (So., 5'9, Steamboat Springs, CO) had 44 assists, three kills and eight digs.
Tompkins and King were named to the 2008 RMAC All-Tournament Team.
Regis receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament (64-teams) with the victory today. Neb.-Kearney and Metro State also received bids.
