Alisan Tompkins' (Jr., OH, 5'10, Grand Junction, CO) 16 kills and Corinne Cascioppo's (Fr., RS, 6'3, Temecula, CA) 12 kills led the Mavericks to a first round upset victory over #2 seed Western New Mexico in the first round of the RMAC tournament in Kearney, NE. earlier today. MSC entered the post season tournament as the #7 seed and swept the Mustangs (25-16, 25-19, 25-12) in the single elimination tournament.
MSC hit .312 in the 3-set match including 13 kills and no hitting errors in set three. Senior libero Ashley Loftsgard (Sr., L, 5'5, Granby, CO) recorded a game high 11 digs and setter Tara King (So., S, 5'9, Steamboat Springs, CO) posted a game high 33 assists.
WNMU tallied 24 hitting errors and hit a -.010 in the match. MSC finished with 10 blocks to the Mustangs' five blocks. Lindsey Jefferson (So., M, 6'2, Orem, Utah) had seven block assists and one solo block.
MSC advances to the semi-finals to play Colorado School of Mines. The Orediggers upset Metro State Friday evening.
