Junior Bobby Coy broke loose for a 43-yard touchdown run with 5:14 remaining in regulation to help the Mavs defeat Colorado School of Mines 27-24 in Golden, CO., Saturday afternoon. MSC is 4-0 (4-2 overall) in league play and tied for first place with Chadron who defeated New Mexico Highlands 56-14.
MSC took a 14-0 lead on a Coy 2-yard run and a 13-yard touchdown pass from Phil Vigil to Ricky Noble in the first quarter. Early in second quarter Jared Keating extended the lead to 17-0 on a 40-yard field goal. On the ensuing kickoff Mines' Cory Huck returned the ball 100 yards for a touchdown and 17-7 score.
Keating connected on a 37-yard field goal and 20-7 MSC lead with 10:18 left in the third quarter. CSM scored 17 un-answered points beginning with a 20-yard touchdown pass late in the third quarter to pull to within 14-20. MSC's next possession resulted in a fumble, recovered by Mines, on their own 2-yard line. The Orediggers went 73 yards in six plays to take a 21-20 lead on another David Pesek touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter. Mines extended their lead to 4-20 on a 30-yard field goal with 7:49 left in the game.
On the ensuing kickoff Griffin Chernoff returned the ball 24 yards to the MSC 34 to start the drive. Five players later Coy busted up the middle 43-yards for the game winning touchdown. Coy finished with 199 rushing yards on 33 attempts and two touchdowns. Noble and Maurice Manley had six catches each (Noble touchdown reception). Vigil was 17-of-26 for 160 yards, one touchdown pass and was intercepted once. Defensively MSC held the Orediggers to 41 net yards rushing led by Cody Walker's team high 12 tackles (six solo), one sack and one tackle for loss yardage.

MSC will host CSU-Pueblo Saturday night at Stocker Stadium. Kick-off is set for 7 pm.
