Colorado Mesa University Women’s Soccer Head Coach Jody Lingafeldt announced the hiring of Kristal Luna as her assistant coach prior to the start of the 2025 season.
Luna joins the Mavericks after having been the top assistant at Sonoma State for the past five seasons with their Women's Soccer program. Prior to her time coaching at Sonoma State, Luna also served as an assistant coach for one season at Santa Rosa College in 2018 with their Women's Soccer program as well.
In her time as a coach at Sonoma State, Luna helped the team to a 50-33-13 record from 2019 to 2024 with the Seawolves collecting three straight league titles (2019,2021,2022) and reaching the NCAA Tournament in each of those seasons as well. The 2022 season was the program’s seventh straight season reaching the NCAA Tournament minus the 2020 COVID-cancelled Fall season. In Luna's lone season with Santa Rosa College the Bear Cubs went 14-6-3.
Luna also participated as a student-athlete at Sonoma State from 2013-17 excelling as a three-time all-conference recipient and one-time all-region pick on the Women’s Soccer team. She would tally 76 games played, six goals, six assists, and help the team to a 54-16-10 overall record during her four seasons of competition. During that span the Seawolves made four NCAA Tournament appearances and won the CCAA Regular Season title in 2015.
Following her graduation from SSU and before entering into coaching, Luna became a member of the emerging sport around the world known as teqball. She became a member of NorCal Teqers and frequently competed in competitions and events throughout the offseason.
Luna graduated and finished her educational career at Sonoma State with a BS in Kinesiology and a concentration in Lifetime Physical Activity.
