Sam Hyme is now in her third year as a member of the Maverick cross country and track & field coaching staff and will primarily assist CMU Cross Country/Track & Field program director Travis Floeck with the distance runners.
In her first year in 2023-24, Hyme helped the Maverick women’s cross country team to its best Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference finish in nine years and their best regional finish since 2016.
In the fall of 2024, the Maverick women then qualified as a team for the NCAA Division II National Championships for the first time since 2014.
Hyme came to Grand Junction in the summer of 2023 for a volunteer leadership role for Resonate Church, which focuses on young adult ministry. That role, along with her volunteer role with the CMU running programs, allows her to fulfill her passion on working with college athletes and caring for the whole person.
Hyme was also a collegiate runner, competing at NCAA Division I Kent State during all four years of her collegiate career, where she earned Academic All-MAC honors for the Golden Flash. She also earned a bachelor’s degree at Kent State in biochemistry in 2021.
A native of, Pataskala, Ohio, Hyme also earned All-Ohio honors while in high school, running for the Watkins Memorial High School Warriors.
Outside of her church and coaching roles, she also works as a research project specialist with RAND. In her free time, she enjoys trail running, hiking and camping.
