Hannah Meek

Hannah Meek is in her second year as the Maverick’s jumps coach and fourth as a coach in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, having served as the graduate assistant coach at UCCS, her alma-mater, for the previous two years.

In her first year with the Mavericks in 2024-25, Meek guided Antone Higgs, who qualified for both the NCAA Division II Indoor and Outdoor Championships as well as RMAC indoor long jump champion Salem Brunk.  Those two men also combined for six All-RMAC honors while two other women earned similar honors in the high jump.  Higgs was also a USTFCCCA All-Region selection.

A talented and award-winning athlete in her own right, Meek helped the Mountain Lions win seven Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference team titles as a student-athlete before winning four more as a coach.

Meek is still the Mountain Lions’ indoor (6.37m/20-10 ¾) and outdoor (6.58m/21-7 ¼) long jump record holder and ranks seventh in Division II history with the indoor mark and 16th with the outdoor mark.

She qualified for the NCAA Championships on eight separate occasions, while earning eight first team and ten overall USTFCCCA All-America honors in the long and triple jump events.  She was the national runner-up in the long jump at the 2021 outdoor championships and placed third in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump at the 2021 indoor championships, helping the Mountain Lions to an eighth place finish at the national meet, their highest finish in program history.

Meek also won two of her six RMAC titles that winter and was named as the USTFCCA Regional Field Athlete of the Year.  She also claimed the RMAC Field Athlete of the Year award for the first of what would be three times.

Completing her bachelor’s degree in communications in 2022, Meek then stayed on with the Mountain Lions as a graduate assistant coach while working towards a master’s degree in public affairs and criminal justice, which she plans to complete in December, 2024.

As a coach, Meek was primarily responsible for working the multi-event athletes while also assisting her former jumping teammates and the short sprinters.  She coached 2024 RMAC Decathlon champion and NCAA qualifier Torben Hast, who helped lead the Mountain Lion men to a RMAC title on the CMU campus.

Meek also helped the Mountain Lions win three of the four possible RMAC men’s championships plus the 2023 women’s outdoor title in her time on Ross Fellows’ coaching staff.

Outside of her collegiate exploits, Meek was a qualifier for the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the summer of 2022 and the USA Indoor Championships in the following winter.

She is a 2017 graduate of Pueblo West High School and was the Cyclones’ former school-record holder in the long jump.

When not around the track, Meek enjoys horseback riding and other outdoor activities such as fishing and camping.  She is also a self-described bookworm.

Her parents Tina and John Careaga reside in Georgia.
