Abigail Wiley

Abigail Wiley enters her seventh season as the head women’s lacrosse coach. Wiley was named head coach in May 2010 and has compiled a 41-47 overall record in her six seasons.

The Mavericks upward trajectory continued in 2016 when it exploded for a school-record 13 wins and advanced to the semifinals of the RMAC Tournament. The Mavericks had six players earn All-RMAC honors and 18 players named to the All-RMAC Academic Honor Roll. 

2015 was a record year for the Mavericks as they won a then-school-record nine games and advanced to the RMAC Tournament where it fell to the eventual conference champions Lindenwood. 

2014 ushered in a new era in CMU women's lacrosse as the team competed for the first time as a sport in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The team posted a 2-3 record and qualifed for the conference tournament where it fell in the semi-finals. 

In 2012 the young Maverick team placed seven players on the Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association all-conference team, including WILA Freshman of the Year. CMU’s Rachael Sutton was voted All-WILA Freshman of the Year. Sutton, along with freshman teammate, Lauren Elliott was named All-WILA First Team honorees.

All-WILA second team honors included Allie Henderson and Myka Wiebe. CMU had three players named All-WILA Honorable Mention; Lexie Chavez, Amanda Simon and Lauren Wells.

CMU placed eight student-athletes on the All-WILA All Academic Team. Kate Diamond, Keri Kopchik, Erika Krook, Mariah Schmidt, Amanda Simon, Maddie Spor, Myka Wiebe and Ashley Winsor were honroed for their outstanding work in the classroom.

In 2012 four Mavericks, Lauren Elliott, Allie Henderson, Rachel Sutton and Lauren Wells, were selected by USA Athleties International to represent the USA and travel abroad during the Summer of 2013 to compete internationally in tournaments in the United Kingdom, Amsterdam and Prague. 

In 2011, CMU’s inaugural season, the Mavericks first victory in school history came on March 15 in a win over Millsaps College 19-1. The Mavericks finished 2-4 in the Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (WILA) placing third in the WILA standings.

Four Mavs earned WILA All-Conference recognition, including two first-team honorees, a second team and honorable mention selection.

Three CMU student-athletes were honored on the WILA All-Academic Team. The trio was a group of 20 student-athletes to be named on the inaugural academic team.

Colorado Mesa University had two players selected to represent the USA in the UK Collegiate Tour scheduled for the summer of 2012. The International competitive team consists of All-Conference, All-Region and All-American players from the Division I, II and III levels.

Prior to arriving at CMU, Wiley was a volunteer coach with Long Island Select Lacrosse with over four years of experience coaching at Kings Park Youth Lacrosse Camp, For the Love of the Game Camp and State University of New York at Cortland (SUNY) Women’s Lacrosse Sport School.

A native of New York, Wiley played collegiate lacrosse at SUNY Cortland for two years. Prior to attending SUNY Cortland she played two years at Nassau Community College where she was a preseason All-American and team captain.

As a member of the Long Island Select Lacrosse staff she helped in the planning, organizing and conducting of practice sessions. She developed team strategies, analyzed the strengths and weaknesses of opposing teams and developed game plans.

Wiley earned her Associates in Liberal Arts from Nassau Community College in 2007. She graduated in December 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Education in Physical Education with a concentration in Adapted Physical Education.
