  • Title
    Assistant Cross Country Coach
Georgia Porter, an 8-time All-American and 4-time Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Champion during her 2-year running career at Western Colorado University, is in her first season as an assistant coach for the Maverick Cross Country program.

Porter, who still runs competitively, is now training for the Chicago Marathon, which she will run in October, also qualified for and finished 28th at the 2020 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials.

Since, Porter has been coaching individual athletes for Team RunRun and for the Special Olympics in Gunnison.

Before moving to Colorado to enroll at WCU, Porter won the Northwest Athletic Conference titles for cross country (2014) and in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters on the track while representing Mt. Hood Community College in suburban Portland (Gresham) while completing her associate’s degree there in 2015.

In her first cross country season at Western, Porter finished second at both the RMAC and NCAA Division II South Central Regional Cross Country Championships before claiming her first Division II All-America honor with a 15th place finish at the national championships.  She also finished second at the RMAC Championships and placed eighth at the national meet as a senior in the fall of 2016.

On the track, Porter won three RMAC titles in 2016, taking the 3,000 meters indoors and the 1,500 and 5,000 meter crowns outdoors while earning two more all-America plaudits.

In her senior track and field seasons in 2017, she won the RMAC 10,000-meter title and picked up four more all-America honors, capping her collegiate career with a third and fifth place finishes in the 10K and 5K at the NCAA Division II National Championships.

Porter comes from a running family.  Her mother Laurie has been a high school coach for two decades.  Her sister Sarah Crouch was the national champion in the 10,000 meters for Western Washington while her sister Shannon ran at St. Martin’s.

Porter is an outdoor enthusiast and enjoys camping, rock climbing, rafting, tubing and has hiked a few 14ers.  She also enjoys listening to podcasts about history, science and philosophy and is a self-declared foodie.
