Former Maverick standout Kelly (Adams) Reece is in her first year as an assistant coach for the Maverick softball team.

Reece, was named as the RMAC Centennial All-Time Team’s Top Player in 2009, when the conference celebrated its’ 100th year.

After transferring from Grand Rapids Community College in her home state of Michigan, Reece, who played under her maiden last name of Adams, was named as a First Team NFCA Division II All-America outfielder in both of her years as a Maverick (2000, 2001).  She was also named as the RMAC Player of the Year in both years and was inducted into the CMU Athletics Hall of Honor in 2012.

In 2000, she  hit .433 with 12 home runs, nine triples and 45 RBIs while stealing 43 bases while leading the Mavericks to the NCAA Division II Women’s College World Series for the only time in program history.  She did even better as a senior in 2001, when she led all of NCAA Division II in runs per game (1.33), home runs (21), home runs per game (0.39) and total bases (177) while hitting .459.

Reece still holds the CMU single-season records for home runs and triples and also holds the career record for triples (16) and stolen bases (89).  She also never made an error during 110 games in a Maverick uniform and is the only player in CMU history to hit three home runs in a single game, doing so on Mar. 10, 2001 against UCCS.

In her two years, she hit .446 with 145 runs scored, 28 doubles, 33 home runs and 106 RBIs.  She also drew 43 walks and stole 89 bases in 100 attempts.

Reece and her husband of 11 years, Justin, moved to Ridgway, Colorado in the later months of 2019, where he is the Battalion Chief for the U.S. Forest Service and is excited to be back in Colorado and part of softball again.

The couple had been living in Klamath Falls, Oregon for eight years, where she worked as a personal trainer and served as the assistant softball coach at the Oregon Institute of Technology from 2014-19, where she helped guide the Owls to the 2015 and 2019 NAIA World Series and to the NAIA National Tournament in all six seasons on the staff.

She and Justin have two dogs— Bucky and Mack, and enjoy hiking and cross country skiing.
