Colorado Mesa University Athletics

Ben Garcia was named head softball coach at Colorado Mesa University in July of 2014.

During the 2018 season, Garcia led the Mavericks to a 48-5 overall record and garnered the No. 1 National Ranking in the NFCA Poll, a spot they held for seven consecutive weeks. He was named the RMAC Coach of the Year and helped the team achieve numerous RMAC statistical records. The Mavericks won the RMAC regular season title for the third straight season and claimed their second straight tournament title. They went on to host the NCAA Regional Tournament. 

The 2017 season was another banner year for the Mavericks as they finished with a 48-8 overall and 35-4 RMAC record. CMU won both the RMAC Regular Season and Tournament titles. The tournament title was the first in school history for the Mavericks. The team qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season. The Mavericks had numerous individual accolades with Brook Hodgson and AnnMarie Torres each earning All-America honors. Hodgson was named the RMAC Co-Offensive Player of the Year, Torres the RMAC Freshman of the Year and McKenzie Surface the RMAC Pitcher of the Year. CMU had 11 players earn All-RMAC honors and nine were named to the All-RMAC Academic Team. 

Garcia was named RMAC Coach of the Year after leading the Mavericks to the RMAC Regular Season Title in 2016. The Mavs qualified for the NCAA Tournament advancing to the semi-finals of the South Central Regional Championships. Makayla Kovac was named the RMAC Offensive Player of the Year and an NFCA All-American. Brooke Hodgson was named the RMAC Defensive Player of the Year and 10 players earned All-RMAC honors. 

Prior to coming to CMU he served as the head coach at Otero Junior College for three seasons.. He posted a 143-42 mark at Otero including a pair of Region IX Championships in 2013 and 2014. He also coached 22 all-region members, 23 academic Region IX honorees and one All-American. 

Garcia was also highly successful at the high school rankings winning over 400 games in 21 years as head coach at Pueblo East. He led the Eagles to 19 state tournament appearances, including the state title in 2012 and four runner-up appearances. He was named the Colorado Coach of the Year in 2012. 

Ben and his wife Beth, a school teacher in Pueblo, have two daughters Aubrie and Amanda.
