2019 Outdoor (Redshirt Senior): Competed in six meets, winning his fourth RMAC Championship with a meet record setting and season-best matching clearance of 5.30 meters (17-4.5)... Qualified for his seventh consecutive NCAA Championship meet, but failed to clear a height... Also won regular season titles at both the Don Kirby Tailwind Open and Fum McGraw Open... Had been named as the RMAC Field Athlete of the Week for his automatic qualifying vault of 5.30m (17-4.5) at the Fum McGraw Open... Was tied for fifth on the Division II season-long performance list... Earned USTFCCCA All-Region and First Team All-RMAC honors... First Team Academic All-RMAC selection... Went on to receive First Team Google Cloud/CoSIDA Academic All-America and District honors for the second straight year... Also named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team... Had been selected to the Preseason All-RMAC team.
2018-19 Indoor (Redshirt Senior): Earned his fifth career NCAA Division II All-America honor to become the most decorated Maverick track & field (either gender) in program history... Tied for second at the NCAA Division II Championships with a school-record setting clearance of 5.36 meters (17-7), equal to the winner and the best of any Division II athlete throughout the season... Had won his third career RMAC title on a tie-breaker after clearing a RMAC Championship record 5.15 meters (16-10.75)... Was also victorious in three of his other four regular season meets, setting a NCAA qualifying height in all six of his meets... Received USTFCCCA All-Region and First Team All-RMAC accolades... First Team Academic All-RMACÂ selection for the seventh straight season... Had been named to the Preseason All-RMAC squad... Was named as the RMAC FIeld Athlete of the Week twice.
2018 Outdoor (Redshirt Junior): Earned his fourth career NCAA Division II All-America honor with a second place finish at the NCAA Division II Championships in Charlotte, N.C. Cleared 5.18 meters (17-0) there... Broke his own school-record with a clearance of 5.35 meters (17-6.5) early in the season at the Home Depot Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, where he finished fourth as the only Division II athlete in the section... That mark automatically qualified him for the national championships and ended up being the best in Division II throughout the season... Earned USTFCCCA all-region honors for the fifth straight season... Took second at the RMAC Championships earning First Team All-RMAC plaudits... Won the discipline with a clearance of 5.30 meters (17-4.5) at the Western/GHS Combined Invitational... Made Maverick history by becoming the first track & field/cross country student-athlete in CMU history to ever earn Google Cloud/CoSIDA Academic All-America honors... Was one of just 15 nation-wide first team selections after previously earning academic all-district honors to earn a spot on the national ballot... Competed in seven total meets... Had been named to the Preseason All-RMAC team... Was again named to the First Team RMAC All-Academic team.
2017-18 Indoor (Redshirt Junior): Had a stellar season, highlighted by winning the NCAA Division II title in Pittsburg, Kan... Matched his own former-school record of 5.25 meters (17-2.75) to win the crown on tie-breaking procedures... Became just CMU's second national champion in the sport a few hours after teammate Spencer Jahr won the heptathlon to become the first... Also earned his third consecutive all-America honor for the effort... Was undefeated throughout the season and went into the national meet ranked first in the country after clearing 5.25 meters for the first time at the Mines D-II Invite & Multi to automatically qualify for the national championships... Earned USTFCCCA all-region honors for that effort... Also won the RMAC title with a clearance of 5.12 meters (16-9.5)... Would go on to be named as the USTFCCCA Indoor Field Scholar Athlete of the Year, becoming the first Maverick to ever earn such an award... Competed in seven different meets and cleared at least 5.00 meters (16-4.75) in all of them... Was also a First Team RMAC All-Academic selection... Had been named to the Preseason All-RMAC team.
2017 Outdoor (Redshirt Sophomore):Â Earned All-American honors with an eighth place finish in the pole vault at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships... First Team Academic All-RMAC...Earned First Team All-RMACÂ after placing third in the pole vault (4.75m, 15-7) at the RMAC Championships... Vaulted an outdoor school-record 5.10 meters (16-8.75)... Competed in 10 meets, winning three... Cleared 5.00 meters or higher at four of them... USTFCCCA All-Region selection.
2016-17 Indoor (Redshirt Sophomore): Earned All-America honors after placing fifth at the NCAA Indoor National Championships in Birmingham, Ala... Cleared a then school-record 5.15 meters (16-10.75) to do so... First Team Academic All-RMAC ... Competed in six meets, winning the Western State Open.... USTFCCCA All-Region pick.Â
2016 Outdoor (Redshirt Freshman):Â Named RMAC Scholar-Athlete... First Team Academic All-RMAC... Competed in the pole vault at the NCAA Division II Championships... Won that discipline at the RMAC Championships with a clearance of 4.77 meters 15-7.75 to earn First Team All-RMAC accolades... Set the former school-record with a height of 5.02m (16-5.5) at Colorado Mines to earn his trip to nationals... Competed in nine events, winning the pole vault at four of them.... USTFCCCAÂ All-Region pick.
2015-16Â Indoor (Redshirt Freshman):Â First Team Academic All-RMAC... Placed fourth in the pole vault (4.63m, 15-2.25) at the RMAC Championships... Set the former school record in the pole vault with a height of (4.66m, 15-3.5) at Western State... Competed in five meets.
2015-16 (Freshman): Redshirted during both the indoor and outdoor seasons.
CMU Football: Also played football for the Mavericks in 2014 and 2015 as a wide receiver and punter.
Prep: 3-time all-state pole vaulter for Chaparral High School... Was the state runner-up as a senior in 2014.
Personal: Majoring in business... Parents are Tom and Shannon Ellis.
