2023 Outdoor (Redshirt Sophomore): Ran in four meets, including the RMAC Championships… Competed in four different disciplines throughout the year, qualifying for the conference meet in the 400 meters… Finished 18
th in 50.65 seconds after running a season-best time of 49.54 to finish third at the Maverick Invite… Had season-best times of 11.46 and 22.48 in the 100 and 200 meters, respectively, at the Kit Mayer Classic… Helped the Mavs finish fourth in the 4x400-meter relay at the RMAC Championships with a time of 3:15.84, second fastest in CMU history… Has now run on each of the program’s three fastest relay teams.
2022-23 Indoor (Redshirt Junior): Ran the 400 and 4x400-meter relay at the Mountaineer Open & Multi, his only meet of the season in December… Finished second in both, posting a time of 50.43 in the 400 while helping the Mavs to a relay time of 3:23.30… Ranks ninth in CMU history with his individual time… The relay time was eighth fastest in CMU indoor history… Was ranked 16
th on the RMAC’s season-long performers list in the 400 with a converted time of 49.85 but did not enter the RMAC Championships.
2022 Outdoor (Redshirt Freshman): Ran in each of the team’s first four meets, including the RMAC Championships… Qualified for the conference meet in both the 200 and 400 meters… Earned Second Team All-RMAC honors in the 4x400-meter relay after helping the Mavs post a school-record time of 3:15.69 to finish second… Had also reached the final in the 400-meter dash, clocking a career-best time of 49.13 seconds to place eighth… Ranks sixth in program history with that time… Finished 15
th in the 200 with a time of 22.51… Had ran to a career-best time of 22.20 at the Maverick Invite #2… Also ran on CMU’s 4x400-meter relay team that posted a then school-record time of 3:16.70 at the Colorado Invitational.
2021-22 Indoor (Redshirt Sophomore): Ran at one meet, recording a time of 52.35 seconds in the 400 meters at the Western Colorado Alumni Open.
2021: Did not compete.
2020 Outdoor: Season canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
2019-20 Indoor (Redshirt Freshman): Competed in sprinting events at three meets… Posted season-best times of 23.09 (200) and 52.08 (400) at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational… Had a best of 7.51 seconds in the 60 meters at the Mines Winter Classic Invitational.
2018-19 (Freshman): Redshirt year.
Prep: Qualified for the 5A State Championships in both the 200 and 400 meters as a senior (2018) at Regis Jesuit HS... Finished fourth in the 400 after winning the Continental League title in that and the 4x400 relay... Ran a 400-meter PR of 49.04 earlier in the season... Placed 12th at state in the 200 after taking second at the league meet in that event.... Ran PR time of 22.27 to win The Holy War... Had taken 11th in the 400 at the 2017 state championships as a junior... Was second in the 400 and third in the 200 at the 2017 Continental League Championships... Coached by Ryan Taylor.
Personal: Is majoring in exercise science... Aspires to become a doctor... Son of Jim and Jodi Smallwood... Has two siblings (Jayce, Ross)... Jayce plays football at Drake... Enjoys snowboarding, wakeboarding and music.
